ROING, Oct 10: In a major achievement, the Department of Relief, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management here today have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on preparation of Village Disaster Management Plan.

The MOU was signed by Field Officer, RR & DM Dept, Roing, Shri Tana Tage, Essomi Foundation Trust (EFT), Co-Ordinator, Miss Meena Tadar and representative of Creative Health Association, (CHA), Shri Bishnu Rana.  

The Deputy Commissioner, Roing, Shri P Hosai, former District Adult Education Officer and Secretary, EFT, Sumo Linggi and Extra Assistant Commissioner in Charge Relief, Rehab & Disaster Management, Shri Allen Pertin were present in the signing ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, DC, Hosai has lauded the efforts of the department to create massive awareness among the grass root level people and expressed hope that the preparation of Community Contingency plan for the village level would be helpful to the villagers, who are the first responder to any natural disasters. “VDMP will be their ‘living text’, he added.

“Community should be educated about the impending danger posed by disasters”, he said adding that NGOs has to play important role in the society educating them about pre, during, post disaster scenario.

Meanwhile, one day training cum orientation programme, a GoI-UNDP sponsored DRM programme for the NGOs members has been slated for the 23rd Oct’2007 at Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner Office. The training will be imparted by the Field Officer & resource person from Directorate of Relief, Rehab & Disaster Management, Itanagar.
