10 Acres of Marijuana Crop Destroyed

Roing, Nov 2: 28 plots of Marijuana crop, spread over approximately 10 acres of land, at different locations of Lidor, Maktum, Last Depot, Dunabari, Tamak, 7 kilo, 12 kilo etc areas of Bizari under Dambuk circle were destroyed under the guidance and supervision of Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom(IAS),
by a team consisting of Incharge ADC (Dambuk) Kabang Apum, SP James Kabang Lego, SDO (Paglam) Phillip Tayeng, SDPO (Dambuk) S. K. Lenka, OC (Dambuk) Ojing Moyong, personnel from Tax, Excise & Narcotics department, personnel from Geology and Mining department, Forest Guards of Dambuk and Bizari Range, ALCs and SHGs of Bizari led by Smti Gogan Dai.
The women SHGs of the area had earlier approached Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom with a plea for the District Administration and department of Tax, Excise & Narcotics to help curb the growing drug menace, which was destroying the youth of the society. They pleaded for the destruction of the marijuana crops which were planted secretly by farmers all over the Bizari area in the Lower Dibang Valley district.
The Marijuana destruction exercise was successfully carried out with the active help and support of SHGs Bomi Ane, Chiney, Hiney, Agam, Kampona etc who helped in locating the plots.
Law and order situation was normal except for a few instances of resistance which were resolved. The destroyed Marijuana plants were burnt on the spot itself as the team had to walk through densely forested and inaccessible areas to reach the illegal crops. The Administration has sent this out as a warning to the villagers not to indulge in cultivation of such crops. Any repeat offenders will be punished as per law.
