5th State Level Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy 2022 Begins in LDV

Roing, May 26: The 5th State Level Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy 2022 for Football and Volleyball(Under 16 Boys and Girls) was declared open by the Minister (Sports and Youth Affairs, Forest & Environment and WRD) Mama Natung today during the inaugural function at the General Ground, Roing. Also present were MLA Gum Tayeng, MLA Mutchu Mithi, Secretary(Sports) Anirudh S. Singh, Director(Sports) Tadar Apa, Director(Youth Affairs) Ramesh Linggi, DC Soumya Saurabh, SP J. K. Lego and a host of dignitaries.

‘Team Arunachal’s vision of seeing Arunachal Pradesh as a sports powerhouse’ with ‘sportspersons winning medals for the state’ and the country is being realised through spotting and nurturing of talents through events like the Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy, stated Mama Natung during his address today. He highlighted the efforts made by the government in developing the sports infrastructure across the state and restarting delayed projects so that the infrastructure created will aid the sportspersons get better training environment and facilities.

Mama Natung, stressing on the importance of the day, informed that it was on this day that Lt Hangpan Dada was martyred while protecting the nation, and thus the Chief Minister’s trophy was renamed as Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy to honour his memory. Saying that sports and culture are the medium to bring the youth together, Mama Natung hoped that such events are beneficial and can help foster sportspersons to become physically and mentally disciplined and become good sportsmen.

‘Do not take drugs but take up sports’, he advised the students and requested all to spread the word. Speaking on the ‘Airgun Surrender Abhiyan’ held earlier in the day where 76 airguns were surrendered by the people, he emphasised on the importance of saving our forests, Flora and fauna. If we don’t save it now the future generations will not get an opportunity to see them, he said and added that all should try shooting with the camera and not with guns.

MLA Gum Tayeng said that it is a good opportunity for the youth to play sports and explore it as a career option. MLA Mutchu Mithi said that one can learn a lot from sports like qualities of discipline, team spirit and camaraderie. We have the talent but need to foster it with perseverance and dedication to be successful in the field, he stated.

Secretary(Sports) Anirudh S. Singh informed that the Sports department is working with a renewed zeal under the able leadership of Mama Natung. He advised the students that winning or losing did not matter and all participants are winners.

DC Soumya Saurabh and Director(Sports) Tadar Apa also addressed the gathering.
