Roing, Oct 2: A programme to welcome the arrival of the victory flame (Swarnim Mashaal) in Lower Dibang Valley district as a part of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebration was held today at Roing, to coincide with Gandhi Jayanti celebrations and 75 years celebration of Indian Independence ’Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’. The day saw the presence of Major General Dhirendra Singh Kushwah (Sena Medal), GOC of 2 Mountain Division, MLA Dambuk Gum Tayeng, MLA Roing Mutchu Mithi, Brig Deepak Gaur (Commander, 117 Mountain Brigade),

DC K. N. Damo, ZPC Obang Ngupok, SP J. K. Lego, army officers, heads of departments, veterans, Jawans, school children and the general public.

Major General Dhirendra Singh Kushwah, addressing the gathering, informed about the Vijay Mashaal (Victory Flame) and its unique history. He informed that on the 50th anniversary of Indo-Pak war 1971, on 16 December (Vijay Diwas) our PM had lit the victory flames and sent them out to travel to the 4 corners of the country and pay homage to the war veterans and remind the public of the supreme sacrifices made by our soldiers.

The Major General said that the relationship between the public and the army is a special and unique one and called for all to have a positive approach, stay united and work together peacefully to develop the area and achieve set goals and targets. We are your army and are ready to provide any help and support without any hesitation, Kushwah added. He also praised the civil-military expedition to Athopopu undertaken in the Dibang Valley district and called for many more such collaborative endeavours.

Deputy Commissioner K. N. Damo, welcoming one and all to the event, called this joint venture between the IV Gorkha Regiment of the Indian Army and the District Administration, a programme that would instill a sense of patriotism amongst the people and also provide a glimpse into the disciplined life, work and opportunities in the armed forces, which would encourage the youth of the district to look towards the armed forces as a career option.

The day also saw a special cultural event with school children of the district performing and a band display, Khukri dance and a Gatka dance by the army personnel. The day also saw the felicitation of war veterans and a special weapons and equipment display by the Indian Army, at General Ground,Roing.

Earlier in the morning, the Victory flame was received at Sine Bridge and lit at MUTTUM DARIN LIRENG war memorial and Wreath laying/ Salutations/ Floral tribute was paid to the war martyrs of Anglo Abor war of 1894. Tribute paid to the unsung heroes of Anglo-Abor war of 1894 at Bongal-Yapgo Dambuk.

The day also witnessed the flagging off of 2 ambulances for Iduli and Bolung PHC, sponsored by POWERGRID, Roing under its CSR programme by MLA Mutchu Mithi and DC K. N. Damo.
