Apatani Community of Roing Celebrates Dree Festival

Roing, July 5: The Apatani community residing at Roing, Lower Dibang Valley district celebrated the Dree festival with full gaiety and fervour. The community came together in colourful traditional attire and showcased their rich traditions and customs.Attending the celebration, MLA Mutchu Mithi praised the Apatani community for contributing immensely towards the progress of the state. He said that it was because the forefathers of the community had the vision to educate their children that the community was reaping the benefits now. Now it is your turn to give back by taking up the responsibility of helping other communities, he added.
Mithi also stressed on the need for creating awareness on the importance of preserving ones mother tongue/ dialect. He said that a change in strategy was required where children would learn through daily interaction in local dialects at home. He also spoke on the need to create a Pan Arunachal identity for the state, the initial step for which to be taken by the communities that are leading the state.
Former ZPM Starson Saring appreciated the unity and strength displayed by the community in the celebration of the festival in all parts of the state. He also appreciated the community in putting in efforts towards preserving their rich culture and being a good example for other tribes to follow.
Er. Hage Mobing read out the Dree mythology and Dr. Hage Atho also spoke on the occasion. The celebration which was attended by Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom (IAS), heads of departments, Officers and public of the area ended with the ‘ Daminda’ community dance and a community feast.
