Independence Day Celebrations

Roing, Aug 16: The 77th Independence Day was celebrated at Lower Dibang Valley district headquarter Roing with MLA Mutchu Mithi unfurling the National Flag.

MLA Mutchu Mithi, while addressing the gathering, paid tribute to the freedom fighters who gave us this independent nation. He also recognised the contributions made by the unsung heroes of the district who fought during the Mishmi Resistance against British Incursions and the Anglo Adi War of 1894 and stated that the independence that we enjoy is our inheritance from them and it is our responsibility to safeguard it.

“This democratic nation receives its power from the people, its rich culture, heritage and traditions. It is the country of sages and scientists, the rich and the poor and all have an equal right to live in it.” He added.

The MLA highlighted the developmental works going on in the district and informed the people about his commitment to improve the lives of the people through projects like the Rayang-Balek PMGSY road; repair of the 1. Bypass road, 2. Abali-Hurupahar-Denllo road, 3. Agamgite road; establishment of a Cultural Convention Center at Roing and celebration of Bishmaknagar Festival and establishment of a Tourism Centre there.

Mutchu Mithi also enjoined the student and the youth communities to focus on their studies and stay away from drugs and intoxicants. We have to fight this threat as a family and a Community, he added.

The day witness the honouring of 11 Unsung heroes of the district and felicitation of teachers whose students had performed well in the Class 12 Board Exams.
