International Labour Day Celebrated at Roing

Roing, May 1: International Labour Day was celebrated today by the workers and office bearers of the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union, Roing unit in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom (IAS), IMCLS General Secretary Rao Dele and LEO Rokom Tayeng.

DC Mitali Namchoom( IAS), speaking on the occassion, acknowledged and thanked all the workers for their important contributions and said that this is a day when the workers can show their strength and work together to bring about positive changes. She advised the workers and union members to be united and work for the benefit of the workers as the power to bargain is strengthened if a united front is present.

The DC explained to all about the Indian Labour Law and other Acts and provisions that are put in place for the welfare of the workers like equal pay for equal work for men and women, work place benefits etc. Stating that only 461 workers were registered in the district and only 135 had got their cards renewed in 2017 2018, she informed all present about the importance of registering and the benefits provided under the Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board like housing loans, maternity benefits, death and accidental death benefits etc. DC Mitali Namchoom also informed all about Central Government pension and insurance schemes like the Atal Pension Yojana, PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana etc which would secure the future of a worker and his/ her family and urged all to invest in it.

Rao Dele of IMCLS spoke on the origins of the celebration of International labour day. He said that unity amongst workers is necessary as any atrocities and issues that arise have to be dealt with by the workers and the union showing a united front. Development cannot happen without workers and manpower even in this technologically advanced age of machinery, he added.

Ita Mimi, President, All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union, Roing Unit, highlighted about the work done by the union since its formation. He asked the workers not to be misguided, stand united and work together.
