International Women’s Day Celebration

Roing, March 8: The womenfolk of Lower Dibang Valley turned up in full force to celebrate the International Women’s Day with the theme of ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’ at the General Ground, Roing, today.

The day saw the conduct of a Baby Show in which more than 50 babies participated and were judged on the growth and development parameters along with immunisation status. It was decided that the weaker children would be provided with half a litre of milk per day, free of cost, for 7 days by the Veterinary department.

A cooking competition in which 16 Anganwadi workers, who prepared nutritious meals for children and pregnant women, were judged on the nutritional value and taste of their dishes. Free paediatric health checkup by paediatrician Dr.N Yirang and anemia screening was done by the Health department. Awareness on women centric apps and helpline numbers was also done on the day.

Dr. Milip Ete created awareness on breast cancer and other issues related to women’s health, Advocate Rukmini Linggi spoke on women and her legal rights and Akunge Muili spoke on importance of immunisation.

A mass marriage registration drive was conducted by the DA, IMCLS(women wing) and EMWEF, Roing, in which 81 couples started the process of registering their marriages. A showcase of successful SHGs was held by ArSRLM and SHG members shared their stories and were felicitated. An effort was made to promote women entrepreneurs and their small businesses by giving them a platform to display their goods and services. A free basic grooming session was also held on the day.

The day saw a huge turnout of children and their mothers, Anganwadi workers and SHG members from across the district to celebrate the IWD 2022.
