Mission Organic Value Chain Development Programme

Roing,August 20: Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom(IAS) made a field visit to agriculture fields cultivated by the Farmers Interest Groups (FIG) under Mission Organic Value Chain Development programme implemented by the Department of Agriculture, Roing today. The team visited large scale ginger cultivation fields at Jia, Bolung and Parbuk.

The DC also visited the Custom Hiring Centre and Office of LDV Organic Ginger Producer Company Ltd. at Rayeng Village and the Collection Centre at Roing. She handed over keys of a Tractor and multi-utility vehicle, Tata Xenon of Custom Hiring Centre to Gagan Perying, MD of FPC LDV Organic Ginger Producer Company Ltd.

DC Mitali Namchoom, while interacting with farmers, encouraged them to grow organic crops as it will fetch higher price in the market for their produce. She said that it will not only be beneficial for the health of the consumers but also help to maintain soil fertility besides maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

She also enquired about information regarding the stock position of the Farmer Producer’s Company and further revenue generation programmes.

MD (FPC) Gagan Perying elaborated on the revenue generation policy through the Custom Hiring Centre and strategy for marketing of their surplus Ginger produce. Bhaskar Gohain, Service Provider, Sikkim State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. informed that 3 trucks of consignment has already been marketed by this FPC through SIMFED market linkage to a Bangalore based company. He also informed that a set of computer will be provided to the FPC.

T. Modi, ADO cum Nodal Officer of MOVCD, Roing and R D Singh, Retd ADO also spoke during the visit and highlighted about the program.

Farmers expressed their happiness on the visit of the team saying that it will boost their moral to continue organic cultivation as organic farming involves higher cost as weeding and other practices have to be done manually with the involvement of more man power instead of using pesticides/weedicides.

The team consisted of DAO M. Lego, ADO J. Ete, Progressive Farmer cum Managing Director, LDV Organic Ginger Producer Company Ltd. Gagan Perying and progressive farmers Ravi Mihu, Josep Pertin, Ojing Kartek, Tarik Modi and others.
