Rijiju, dedicating the property to the people of Roing, advised the good upkeep of the property to make it a model youth hostel. Speaking on the promotion of sports in the state, he said that a lot of facilities to encourage sports is being provided so that our children are not deprived for lack of facilities. He also expressed dismay over the states inability to send talented sportspersons to the Asian games and Olympics till date and cited lack of good sports infrastructure as the cause. He expressed the hope that with the coming up of a Centre of Excellence for sports at Itanagar, our state would be well represented in contact sports like karate, taekwondo, wushu; traditional sports like archery, shooting and popular sports of football.
Speaking on infrastructure development through projects sanctioned by central government, the MOS emphasised on the need for timely utilisation of funds. Lack of utilisation leads to project cancellations, which in turn hampers development and leads to the suffering of the public, he added. He enjoined all to ensure that no scheme is delayed due to litigation.
Rijiju also advocated the setting up of industries to utilise the natural resources of land, forest and water that we have in abundance, which would solve problems of unemployment and poor infrastructure that we suffer from. But we should also remember to protect our environment and our traditions, he added.
Kiren Rijiju advised all the students present to look ahead towards the future with a positive mind. We have to work hard to take the name of our state and the North East to the top, he added.
Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Mama Natung, speaking on the occasion, praised the MOS for taking an active interest in promoting sports in the state. He added that ‘Team Arunachal’ had pledged to create good sports infrastructure and bring forward talented sportsmen of the state.
