Sensitisation cum Orientation Workshop on NTCP and Tobacco Control Laws (COTPA, 2003) Held at Roing

Roing, July 18: A district level sensitization cum orientation workshop of District Co-ordination Committee members and law enforcers on National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) and Tobacco Control Laws ( COTPA, 2003) was held today at the DC’s Conference Hall, Roing by the District Health Society, Lower Dibang Valley in the presence of DC Mitali Namchoom, (IAS), SP S. K. Sain, DMO R. Tatan, MOs, school and college Principals and others.
Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman (DTCC) Mitali Namchoom said strict action would be taken against those shopkeepers selling cigarettes and other tobacco products within a radius of 100 yards (91.44 meters) of educational institutions, which is illegal. She also informed that flying squads would be formed to conduct raids to check illegal sale of tobacco products and sale of tobacco products to minors.
During the training, Dr. Biman Natung, SPO (NTCP) gave a presentation on WHO FCTC and best practices in India and Tobacco Control Act (COTPA) and enforcement drives (including the relevant provisions of FSS Act 2006), Dr. L. C. Deori DPO (DTCC) informed about the objectives and overview of the workshop including role of various government departments and other stakeholders in Tobacco Control and strategies on effective implementation of Tobacco Control Programme and COTPA, 2003 in the district and Kopi Ratan, District Consultant (DTCC) gave an overview of NTCP and the status of NTCP in the district.
