Training on Large Cardamom and Kiwi Cultivation at Hunli and Desali

Roing, Jan 20: A two days Information Education and Communication (IEC) programme on Intensive Kiwi and Large Cardamom Cultivation was conducted at Desali on 17th January 2023 and at Hunli on 18th January 2023. Altogether 100 farmers attended the training programmes at Hunli and Desali.

At Hunli, former CM and LG Mukut Mithi advised that farmers should come forward and adopt a scientific and systematic way of Large Cardamom and Kiwi cultivation rather than the traditional one. He said that farmers should avail the training benefits to improve their knowledge on Large Cardamom and Kiwi cultivation as without proper training and consultation from technical experts, the farmers might face heavy losses in later stage. He remarked on the prevailing Cardamom diseases in the district and urged the Horticulture department to find preventive measure to control the diseases. Mithi also distributed Kiwi plants and tools to the farmers.

Zila Parishad Member(Hunli-Desali) Mama Miso urged that there should be systematic plantation through the package of practices thought out by technical experts from Horticulture department. He also stated that for the cultivation of Kiwi and Large Cardamom one should be mentally and physically ready and should not depend on government assistance.

District Horticulture Officer Kuru Ama explained about the varietal Identification and pests and diseases of Large Cardamom and Kiwi. He emphasize on the use of organic fertilizers and pesticides to curb the environment hazards and side effect.

SDO Julity Mihu also attended the training. Resource persons ADO Kato Tayeng, HDO Norbu Tayeng and HDO Leenia Pertin delivered lectures on large cardamom and Kiwi.

The Training was organized by the District Horticulture Office and funded under the Local Area Development (MLALAD)Fund of 43rd Roing (S/T) Assembly Constituency.
