War Memorial unveiled at Dambuk

20th March, 2021, Roing : War memorial (Muttum Lireng) dedicated to the Martyr Muttum Darin was unveiled by Hon’ble MLA, 42nd Dambuk, Smti Gum Tayeng in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, Shri K N Damo, President, Adi Bane Kebang Shri Getem Borang and others at Yapgo village, Dambuk, Lower Dibang Valley today.
Lt. Muttum Darin was martyred in the Anglo-Abor War of 1894 while resisting the entry of Armed British troupe, who were on Abor Hill Expedition at Bongal Yapgo, presently located at Yapgo village under Dambuk Circle. He is till date remembered for his courageous sacrifice by the locals of the area.
Shri Getem Borang, President ABK in his speech lamented that the sacrifices of the martyrs of the Anglo Abor war of 1894 till date remains unsung. He urged the state Govt. to recognize the sacrifices of all the martyrs of the Anglo- Abor war.
The MLA, 42nd Dambuk expressed that the such historical war memorial site at Bongal Yapgo should be conserved and assured assistance from her end to conserve the site and make it a tourist destination.
The DC, Shri K N Damo also spoke on the occasion.
A pamphlet titled ‘THE MARTYR’ was jointly released by the MLA, Smti Gum Tayeng, DC, and the president of ABK on the occasion. (DIPRO)
