Deputy Commissioner K. N. Damo, addressing the gathering, said that although God has made some people handicapped, the handicapped themselves and the society shouldn’t underestimate their potential as they had the will and talent to achieve the goals set by them as proven by the number of medals won for the country in the Paralympics 2021. He advised that parents should encourage the interests and talent of the handicapped children and educate them as they too have a big hand in shaping their own future.
‘You have to have a positive attitude and change the attitude of the community you live in and the world view about you will automatically change’, he added. ‘You are no less than others as you can do a lot. Do not consider yourself weak and unfortunate, you have many opportunities to do what you wish and what you can’, he advised all present.
ZPM (Roing) Komji Linggi said that many consider it a curse but it should be seen as a gift of god to be loved and cared for. He expressed his hope of seeing the district represented in the Paralympic Games in the future and advised parents to educate all their children and let them strive for their goals.
Lower Dibang Valley Handicapped welfare Society, President Radha Mili encouraged all handicapped people to get certified, get educated and avail the job reservation of 5 % given to the disabled.
DD(ICDS) Geyum Amo Perying informed about the welfare schemes for the disabled under the central and state governments and the formalities to apply for it. She advised the parents to educate their disabled wards and give them opportunities to go forward in life.
The day also witness a Prize distribution ceremony for the competitions held on 30th Nov 2021.
