NGOs trained to impart disaster management awareness at remote villages

Roing, Oct 23, 2007: In order to carry forward the process of Community Contingency Plan (CCP) at the grass root level for villages so as to better prepare them to respond the impending disasters, the department of Relief Rehabilitation and Disaster Management has organized a day long training programme on Disaster Management and Planning on 23 Oct last to NGOs of Lower Dibang Valley District at the DC’s conference hall.

Delivering in details of theoretical and technical strategies for preparedness of disaster management plan, Field Officer, (DM) Tana Tage as a resource person said that in the event of disaster the quantum of damages are both grave and widespread causing irreparable loss of properties, human lives, social infrastructures etc which could be reduced if preparedness, prevention, mitigation and response to the disaster is well informed. While making all effort to train the NGOs, Tana’s power point presentation system made worth proving and created the training part interesting.

Dwelling on the vital aspects of contingency plans, he deliberated on roles and responsibilities of the Individuals and families, reconstruction and rehabilitation action groups including Hazard, Risk and opportunities mapping. A film show on worst disaster hit clips was also presented in the programme.

District Labour &Employment Officer, N Tangjang speaking as a resource person highlighted the most prone disasters that annually hit across the state. He also appealed the NGOs to educate the villagers in the most common medium so as to make the programme fruitful.

Altogether, 12 members from Creative Health Foundation (CHF) and Essomi Foundation Trust (EFT) were imparted training to carry on the programme further at the village level to accomplish the objective as envisaged by the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP).

Earlier, an official website of District Disaster Management cell was also launched by Allen Pertin EAC as a chief guest in a simple ceremony which is first of its kind in the state. The website is developed by NIC Roing.

In his key note address, Pertin said that the Disaster is unpredictable and may hit at any moment and should well prepare to mitigate the same. He also urged the NGO’s members to play a pro active role to disseminate awareness campaign in the remote and interior places of the district to pass on the messages to the people.

The NGOs would organize a series of workshop at each villages of the district to educate about the disaster, its management and planning process to mitigate any natural calamities that may hit in the days to come, the sources said.
