Hydro Power Development
About us
The Department of Hydro Power Development (DHPD), Government of Arunachal Pradesh is wholly entrusted with design, construction, operation and maintenance of the hydropower projects in the state.
The department presently has about 135 nos. small/mini/micro hydels in operation across the state with an installed capacity of 70MW approx. which are generating 78MU of electricity annually. And the department is generating revenue for the state through power generation.
Electricity, a key ingredient for improving the living conditions and fueling the development process is very much in short supply and many of the far flung areas are still not electrified neither through grid nor by the department owing to the undulating topography and remoteness. So, people living in the remote corners of the state are demanding its availability.
The state government recently has come up with Border Area Illumination Programme to fulfill the power needs of the remote corners of the state. New schemes in Lower Dibang Valley District are also approved/sanctioned which are in the very initial stages of execution.
